With a combination of three types of cultivation, Vazhoor native Anil Abraham has shown the world the way to success. He tried his hand at farming quail, mushroom and honeybee (apiculture) and all three proved successful.
Anil entered to agriculture sector 14 years ago following the agrarian heritage of his parents. Though he started with pineapple and vegetable farming, he could not gain profit as expected. Thus he started considering other types of cultivation.
Anil visited many farms and studied about the methods of quail farming. First he bought 100 quails and gradually increased the number. Later, the farm was developed to house upto 1,000 quails. When the quail farm reached its maximum capacity, Anil started thinking about mushroom farming.
He began with oyster mushrooms and milky mushrooms in a small room close to his house. Both varieties of mushrooms are of high demand in the market. Also, he produces mushroom spores. He gives training in mushroom farming under the leadership of Krishi Bhavan.
As both quail and mushroom farming became successful, Anil planned to start honeybee farming. He set up beehives at the premises of his house. He sells soap, facewash, cream and 15 types of value added products of honey and gains profit.
