Differently abled farmer turns 3-acre rocky land into rich farm through hardwork
Kelakam (Kannur): Those who love farming can overcome any limitations, proves Anilkumar, a differently abled farmer. Anilkumar lost mobility of both legs after being affected with polio at the age of one. However, he manages to do all types of cultivation without anyone’s help.
With the support of two walking sticks, Anilkumar turned 3-acre land into a rich farm. He grows banana, pepper, fodder grass, vegetables, fruits and areca nut in a rocky land. Though he sustained severe injuries in an accident during the hard work and was bedridden for about one and a half years, he survived with his determination.
Anil is also rearing 8 goats, 25 hens, buffalo and cow in the limited space available close to his house. Apart from this, he also manages beehives and asola cultivation in a tarpaulin pond. The outer world came to know about this farmer’s hard work after Kelakam Agriculture Officer K G Sunil shared a video through WhatsApp group.
Anilkumar said that one should not look at the disabilities and make life full of anxieties. “I can do all works you people do. But I need a little more time,” he says. Anil's wife Prema, children Anurag and Anamika, brother Sunil and parents also support Anil in farming.
