Award-winning photographer harvests 1500 kg Kanivellari from own farm
Nellayi (Thrissur): Farm photographer Shiju Panthallur who captures pictures of agrarian lives has proved that he can also successfully play the role of a farmer. He is all thrilled to harvest Kanivellari (golden melon for preparing Vishukkani) at Panthallur field for this Vishu.
More than 1500 kg cucumber have already been harvested from the land. Also the ash gourd planted in the same time is ready for harvest. After harvesting paddy by January, he plants cucumber for Vishu.
Shiju has been cultivating cucumber for the past five years. As the cucumbers are so attractive, it is of high demand. The Kanivellari is brought for sale at Kodakara and Irinjalakkuda market.
Shiju said that the satisfaction of working hard in the soil with family pulled him to agriculture and the passion for cultivation attracted him to farm photography. Shiju’s photographs were selected for the state farm photography contest conducted by agriculture department in 2017 and 2018.
He has received many other honours for his photos other than farm photographs. The harvest this Vishu season is also a message of survival as Panthallur was devastated after Kurumali river overflowed in the flood last year.
