A tale of a dairy farmer’s hard work
Kudayathoor: Aloshi began dairy farming with a single cow 7 yearsa ago. Now, he has become the best dairy farmer in Kerala by owning 51 cows and 20 buffalos. He was honoured with the award for five long years of hard work.
Aanakayam resident Ponnamatathil Aloshi Joseph has won the state award for the best dairy farmer in 2016-17. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan honoured him with the award in the function held on August 22 at Thiruvananthapuram.
He cultivates various crops along with running his dairy farm in his 6-acre land. He had purchased only 17 cows and the rest had grown on the farm.
Aloshi said that dairy farming is more profitable than agriculture. About 482-liter milk is being produced on his farm per day. He sells milk to some neighbours, Milma dairy society and another society at Thodupuzha.
He cultivated Co3 and Co4 hybrid grass for cows in his house compound and a public land.
He had won KS Cattle feed state award 2015, PDDP State award 2015 under Ernakulam archdiocese and best farmer award of Panchayat.
His 82-year-old father Joseph and his wife Aasha has been working along with him to rear the cattle. Aloshy resides at Kudayathoor with his family. He has two children namely Alona and Milan.
