Youngsters turn barren land into flourishing farm, sell organic produce through social media
Pathanamthitta: When a group of youngsters in Lakkoor joined hands in the fields, they could reap gold. The barren land yielded banana, yam, purple yam and taro. They cultivated about 2000 banana trees in a 3-acre land near Lakkoor. About half of the produce was already sold.
Ajith K Nair, Ajith Chandran, V P Vinod Kumar and P G Gokul, all hailing from Lakkoor, initiated farming during free time. They are working in different private companies and managed to schedule the time to work in the farm. They sell the produce through social media and direct selling without involving any middlemen.
The friends visited many farms before starting a farm of their own. They also attended training classes and purchased seeds from Vakayar. They followed traditional methods and used only organic fertilisers. The family and friends of the youngsters also give them full support for the agricultural venture.
