Young men create history with high-yield farming
Cherayi (Ernakulam): Most of the young generation these days spent a lot of time exercising and grooming their body, while a group of four young men in Ayyampilly made it out of the box.
Pradeep, Ranjith, Anoop and Sujith from Ayyampilly are the pillars behind the extraordinary green revolution which has already gone viral among the natives.
They kept aside their mornings for organic farming and cultivation. They own a 14 cent land near Manapally road in Ayyampilly on which they cultivated around 350 different varieties of lady’s finger and 70 varieties of plantains.
The group says that they groom the plants in the mornings when they go out for jogging. Cow dung is used as manure for the crops and no other artificial fertilizers are used.
Within four months they were able to produce high yielding crops, simultaneously improving their fitness. They are able to sell almost 10 kg of lady’s finger daily.
The most striking element is that none in the group have a farming background but run separate businesses. It all began with a small idea while jogging, to grow vegetables for domestic use through organic farming that has resulted in this revolution.
