Women lead the way in organic farming
Pandalam: When these housewives ventured into the vegetable farming, their sole aim was to produce vegetables for household consumption. However, when the time came for harvesting, they were able to produce organic vegetables to meet the needs of the entire village.
The members of the Perumbulikkal Mahalakshmi Kudumbashree yielded a bumper harvest through the project 'Polivu.'
After selecting the seven-cent plot of a Kudumbashree member for the cultivation, the 19-member team jointly set the land and sowed the seeds.
Using ash, cow dung and compost tea as manure they raise beans, spinach, ladies finger, brinjal, tomato and snake gourd abundantly.
Kudumbashree president Radhamani and Secretary Shrilatha said that the bumper harvest was unexpected.
The harvesting was inaugurated by Panchayat member G Leela Devi.
