Retd engineer spends lockdown in vegetable farm; gets attractive yield now
Paravoor (Ernakulam): A one-man farming venture started during the lockdown has now given a stunning yield. MD Rappai, who retired as assistant engineer from KSEB Paravoor section, proved farming can offer impressive yield after he cultivated vegetables on his 1 acre land in Thathappilly here.
Rappai has been engaged in farming ever since he retired from service 11 years ago. He dedicated his leisure time for agriculture during lockdown. He follows only organic method in farming. Snake gourd is the major crop in his farm. Turmeric, ginger, taro, yam, banana and long beans also are cultivated during monsoon.
Snake gourd is almost ready for harvest now. After this, he plans to cultivate ridge gourd. Drip irrigation is applied during summer. Rappai spends days and hours in the farm taking care of the plants. He only has a complaint that market of organic produce is rather dull.
