Rain shelter vegetable cultivation is not a herculean task, proves students
Idukki: When vegetable cultivation under rain shelter became popular, students also started to experiment this new method in agriculture. The students in Poopara St.Maria Goretti UP school have cultivated vegetables in rain shelter and successfully started harvest.
Cabbage, Cauliflower, tomato and green chilli are cultivated under the rain shelter. The rain shelter was constructed in 3 cent-land of the school compound as a part of the cultivation of winter crops.
Apart from the winter crops, 25 kilo of peas and beans were harvested from the farm.
Though rain shelter farming was an experiment by the students, they have come out successful by producing good quantity of vegetables.
Rajakumari Agriculture officer MS Johnson had given technical assistance and advice to the students.
School manager Fr Jose Parakadavil inaugurated the harvest. Assistant manager Fr Antony Karintharikkal addressed the programme.
