Kothamangalam (Ernakulam): The farmers in Pindimana here organised training session to make ‘Vrikshayurveda Haritha Kashayam’ (green decoction) as part of promoting organic farming method. This will help improve immunity of plants and sustain fertility of soil.
The farmers made the decoction by mixing 6 kilograms of each golden shower (Kanikonna), quickstick (Seemakonna) and neem and one kilogram chopped leaves of various plants like flannel weed (Kurunthotiti), hogweed (Thazhuthama) and chiratta (Kiriyath), cow dung, sprouted black gram, jaggery and water.
This mixture is kept in a drum for 15 days before applying in the farm. The decoction is used as an effective pesticide and fertilizer. The training was part of the ATMA integrated farming scheme. The class was held at the farm of Punnakkal Eldhos who was selected as best farmer in Jaivagriham project.
Agriculture Assistant Director V P Sindhu delivered keynote address and Aikkaranadu agriculture officer Anju Paul led the class. Assistant officer K M Sainudheen, agriculture assistant A M Shanavas and farmers attended the session. Interested farmers will be given training at Krishi Bhavan.
