Beware! Bitter gourd has highest pesticide residue
The pesticide content in vegetables can be removed to an extent by washing them thoroughly or by peeling off outer skin. But bitter gourd is likely to contain more pesticide residues than other vegetables due to its lumps on the skin.
In order to consume safe organic bitter gourd or any other vegetables, the best choice is to cultivate them at home. When we buy bitter gourds bought from market, they need to be washed thoroughly with a soft brush.
Steps to remove pesticide residue from bitter gourd
Keep a washing brush with soft bristles exclusively for washing vegetables in kitchen.
Rub bitter gourd with the brush in medium force under running water for one minute.
Fill a large container with 40 ml vinegar mixed in 2 litre water and soak bitter gourds in it.
After 15 minutes, rinse them in normal water and keep in a drainable basket overnight.
Next day, shift the bitter gourds into a cotton or paper bag and place it in refrigerator.
