Apples ready for harvest in Kanthalloor
Marayur: Apple season arrived earlier than Neelakurinji blooming this year. Kanthalloor apples or better known as Thekkan Kashmir have bloomed beyond expectations.
Kanthalloor is the only place in Kerala with apple farming. The apple trees in Kanthalloor including Puthoor, Perumala, Guhanandapuram and Kulachi Vayal are waiting harvest.
Though the climatic conditions created low yield this year, the trees in the farm have surprised its visitors. Apples trees flowered in the months of January and February.
The visitors could buy the apples directly from the farm. The farmers also said that a tree produces around 30 apples.
Apples were sowed experimentally apart from the mainstream winter farming of Sabarjillly and plum. Since apple farming has been a success, it would be extended to more places in the area, added the farmers.
