Young farmer grows grapes in hill range; harvests 40 kg in 1 month
Idukki: A young farmer has successfully cultivated grapes in Kanthalloor, the land known for winter vegetables. Vettukad native Shelju proved that grapes will grow in the climate of Kanthalloor. During the first phase, grapes was cultivated on a small plot. But he could harvest four times a month and collected 40 kilograms of grapes.
The tourists who come to Kanthalloor never fail to visit Shelju's farm. He grows several crops including strawberry, apple, blackberry, plum, peach and several varieties of winter vegetables and fruits. However, it is hard to find buyers during lockdown.
Currently, Shelju converts strawberry and grapes into wine. He is planning to expand grape farming as the vines grow well in the land. Earlier, Shelju had successfully cultivated onion and shallots in the hill range of Kanthalloor area.
