Shaped like tomato, this brinjal can be asset to kitchen garden
Round brinjal is one of the many varieties of brinjal. Shaped more like a tomato, this is called 'Takkali Vazhuthana (tomato brinjal) in Malayalam. Round brinjal is ideal to make Sambar, stir fry and other traditional Kerala dishes.
Normally, round brinjal is planted during monsoon. However, it can be cultivated in any season. The plant gives fruits continuously for upto two years. If we planted a few saplings at kitchen garden, it will help avoid frequent visit to market for buying vegetables.
Round brinjal is a branching plant that grows upto a height of 3 meters. The plant does not have any thorns and it blooms within 3 months of planting. The fruits should be plucked before they fully ripen. Tender leaves of the plant also is used for making curries.
