Panikkankudi: Anju Thomas, a winner of ‘Gem of Seed’ award of Mathrubhumi Seed, has got admission into the College of Agriculture in Kasaragod. The Konnathadi Parakkal native girl, who dreams to become an agriculture officer, won the award when she was a class 7 student of Konnathadi UP School.

After 6 years of winning the recognition, her dream is about to come true. Anju has joined The College of Agriculture in Kasaragod for BSc Agriculture. She completed her Plus Two from Rajakumari Government Vocational Higher Secondary School.

In addition to dairy farming, goat farming, poultry farming and mushroom farming, she also cultivated more than 80 varieties of vegetables. Her farm turned out to be a study centre for her classmates. In 2017, Anju won the state horticulture award for the best student.

The minister for agriculture, the district level officers of agriculture department, and people’s representatives have worked together for fulfilling Anju’s dreams. She believes that it was Mathrubhumi Seed that inspired her to study agriculture. Her next dream is to lend a helping hand to her parents who are farmers, and also to the hillside farmers.
