To get more flowers from plants, follow Cicily's simple trick
Kottayam: Retired bank employee Cicily George is taking care of her garden plants as if they were her children. She is growing plants all over the 10-cent plot close to her house near Kottayam collectorate.
Cicily has been maintaining the garden for the last 40 years. There are 150 types of begonia, anthurium, money plant, orchid and other varieties of plants. Gardening is her favourite hobby and she spends most of the time in the garden.
Cicily can quickly identify the plant diseases and reasons for delay in blooming. She has also developed some effective homemade fertilisers for the plants. In order to get more flowers, a diluted solution of food waste germinated in rice water can be applied. Also overwatering begonia plants will rot them, she said.
Cicily is more interested in growing plants that are difficult to take care of. Her husband P I George who is a chemical engineer also supports her. As the couple’s all three children are abroad, she has dedicated the entire day for her beloved plants.
