Taxi driver grows garden of 10 o'clock flowers in 140 different colours on rooftop
Pandalam (Pathanamthitta): When Kulanada native Vivek returned from Dubai quitting his job, he only thought about the colourful flowers he has been seeing since childhood. He developed a garden at house and now has a stunning collection of different varieties of ten o’clock plants aka moss rose.
Vivek started purchasing the plants via parcel from Coimbatore after noticing them on Facebook. At present, Vivek has plants that have flowers in 140 different colours. A taxi driver by profession, Vivek spends his leisure time for maintaining the garden.
As only limited space is available in the court yard and the plants require direct sunlight, Vivek planted them in flowerpots and kept on the rooftop. Plants imported from Brazil and Indonesia were delivered by the dealers in Coimbatore.
Vivek has planted some ten o’clock plants in his wife’s house also. Though gardening was only a hobby for Vivek at first, now it is a source of additional income for him. Orders are placed through Facebook and he sends the plants via speed post and courier.
The friends on social media are the main source of orders. Apart from the garden plants, Vivek also rears ornamental fish varieties. His collection of flowers can be seen on the Facebook page Vivek Kulanada.
