Palakkad man brings date palm from Rajasthan spending Rs 12,000
Palakkad: A date palm has become a crowd-puller at the farm of Ullattil Shajahan in Peradiyur here. The 3-year-old palm was brought from Rajasthan a few weeks ago. The date palm is the talk of the town now.
Shajahan has a fine collection of fruit trees which are native to Arabia. He had also planted agarwood, cinnamon, sapota, apple, guava, orange and many other fruit trees in his farm.
Shajahan has been active in this field for the past 8 years. He said that around Rs 12,000 was spent to bring the date palm from Rajasthan.
Organic fertilisers were used in the farm. Shajahan is interested in farming rare exotic plans. Shajahan runs tyre business and spends his leisure time in the farm. Rather than monetary benefits, his passion for farming drives him to continue in this field.
Shajahan cultivates crops in his 20 cents of land. His wife Farisha, children Shanavas, Shabinas and Shahana also support him.
