Thrissur: When Minister for Agriculture V. S. Sunil Kumar visited the Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS) in Ambalavayal in Wayanad, he saw a beautiful bunch of blue flowers there. As soon as he asked, he got a sapling of the vine and he planted it in his house garden in Anthikkad.
The vine grew up, but the flower was not Turkish Blue as he expected. They were bright red like fire flames. When the minister contacted the RARS, they told him that the plant was a very rare variety.
The plant, known as ‘jade vine’, is normally found in the tropical forests in Philippines. The flowers appear in two colours - bright sea blue and bright flame red. The blue variety is very common while the red one is very rarely found.
Jade vine is not commonly found in Kerala. But people bring it from abroad or agriculture universities and plant it at gardens.
