Marigold flowers in 3-acre land blooms in Thillankeri ahead of Onam
Maloor (Kannur): Marigold flowers (Chendumalli) has bloomed in a three cent land near the Thillankeri Panakkatt temple in the valley of Puralimala hills here. The Joint Liability Groups and Male Self Help Groups in Thillankeri had planted about 2 lakh marigold plants in view of the Onam market.
Normally, marigold flowers are brought to Kannur from Gundlupet, Gudalur and Mysuru. These flowers are sold for huge price. In order to tackle this issue, the locals initiated to cultivate flowers in their locality.
This is part of the Onam special flower farming programme implemented by District Panchayat through Krishi Bhavan. The District Panchayat supplied the saplings to farmers’ groups under the Krishi Bhavan for 75 percent subsidy rate. Every day, many people keep visiting the place to view the broad marigold field.
