Yasodharan offers a helping hand to Kanmani who can't stand
Thayyur (Thrissur): Kanmani is a 2-year-old cow of C K Yasodharan, a native of Thrissur. Two weeks back, Kanmani fell down and broke her rear leg while grazing. The veterinary department said that this Gyr species are overweighed with a weak bone size compared to normal cows and cannot be saved. But Yasodharan is unable to sell Kanmani or give it to butchers.
Kanmani was just 3 months old when she first came to Yasodharan’s house. She is now 220 kilograms and will gain more weight and reach 300 kg as she is two months pregnant. She is able to stand up on three hooves but the unbearable pain makes her helpless and even stops taking food.
The vets have told Yasodharan that she will no longer be able to stand up like before. Even after surgery, the steel rod may bend due to her weight and that too may not be beneficial. Yasodharan is willing to offer treatment but vets have asked him to get rid of her.
