Passion for pets: Prameela fosters over a thousand dogs, cats at home
Poonjar: Poonjar resident Prameela Madhukumar loves, cares and fosters stray dogs and cats, as her house is a safe haven for them. Dogs have a special kennel next to her house. Prameela lives on Adakkapara Road near Panachikapara Co-operative Bank. In a short period of time, she was able to raise thousands of dogs and cats. She even accepts those pets abandoned by their masters.
The pets need a good amount of money for medicine and food. She runs a stationery shop and the expense for the pets’ medicine and food is met from it. Prameela now has about 20 puppies and 32 cats in her care.
She follows a routine to feed the pets. Breakfast for them is served by 5 am. Wheat porridge and milk are prepared a day in advance. Fish is also fed once in a day. Special kennels have also been set up for dogs.
Dogs and cats are kept in a way that do not disturb the neighbourhood. She even sells dogs and cats to those who come for it. She has been supported by her husband Madhukumar, who works as a conductor at KSRTC, and her children, Aromal and Akash, to foster the pets.
