Malappuram man befriends Persian cats; owns breeds worth upto Rs 75,000
Tirur (Malappuram): Though there are many people who love pet cats, Vailathur native Ashraf is different as he prefers Persian cats. He has 15 Persian cats at home.
Ashraf first met these furry cats about 10 years ago when he went to Bengaluru for some business purposes. Then he bought two Persian cats from there. Now they are like children for him. In Ashraf’s opinion, Persian cats easily becomes friends with humans.
The major characteristics of Persian cat are its long fur, round face and flat nose. The female cats attain puberty within 7-8 months and male cats within a year. The pregnancy of cats lasts upto 56-65 days. There would be upto 6 kittens in one birth.
There are different varieties of Persian cats like doll face, semi punch, full punch, extreme punch. Ashraf has all these types of cats in different colours like white, golden and black and white. The price of the cats ranges from Rs 10,000 to Rs 75,000. He feeds them with beef and fish cooked with a little turmeric.
Apart from the cats, Ashraf also has different varieties of ornamental fish, flowering plants and exotic fruit trees growing in his compound. Bougainville, shoe flower, moss rose, Burmese grape, Vietnam super early jackfruit, miracle fruit, sweet orange and Thailand guava are some of the plants in his place.
