Kottayam: A man hailing from Mattathil in Pallickathodu here has introduced hi-tech method in goat rearing. An electrical and plumbing worker by profession, M R Ajayakumar started rearing goats after his son developed an allergic disease and was advised to drink goat milk.
The goat cage is constructed on iron cadres placed on top of 10-feet tall concrete pillars. Holed PVC slab is used to make the floor of the cage. There are facilities to remove the goat droppings and urine from the cage and also a walkway to enter the cage. The goat cage was built at a cost of Rs 2.5 lakh.
Ajayakumar rears goats belonging to 11 different breeds such as Malabari Cross, parpasari, beetal and sirohi. There are separate facilities for providing food and water for the goats. As goat rearing offered an additional income during the COVID crisis, Ajayakumar is planning to expand goat farming.
Ajayakumar's wife Shibi and son Omkar also help him with goat rearing. Many people visit him to see the specially designed goat cage. Apart from this, Ajayakumar also maintains fish farming. Two years ago, he had made headlines by initiating a private drinking water scheme helping 40 families.
