Jojo and his 32 cows
Bandadka (Kasaragod): A dairy farmer here is receiving accolades from all for his achievements in dairy sector. Karivedakam native Jojo Augustine has 32 cows including 22 milking cows, 4 heifers and 6 calves. He sells around 225 litres of milk every day. Fodder grass is cultivated in 3-acre land in a hill valley. He is concentrating on dairy farming, milk sale and fodder grass cultivation at a time.
Jojo has been rearing cows for seven years. He started with five cows and later got five more cows from block panchayat. The cows are accommodated in two cow sheds. The work starts from 3.30 am every day. Cows are milked manually and using machine. Milk is given to the Karivedakam dairy farmers cooperative society.
Jojo has also won award for measuring largest quantity of milk in Karadukka block last year and has also been selected as the best fodder grass farmer this year. He turned to farming after completing ITI in electronics and one year of training in Thiruvananthapuram ISRO centre.
Jojo started farming coconut, areca nut and rubber along with his father. His parents Augustine and Annamma, and his wife Sindhu also helps him in maintaining the cows. His children Albin, Melbin and Francis are school students.
