Goats and bulls as gift for 'full A+': Meet this young farmer from Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: When Abhijith’s father asked him what he wanted as a gift for securing a 'full A+' in the tenth grade, he had no second thoughts; a calf, he said. The glad father gave him Rs 5500 to buy a good quality baby bull (calf). He raised, sold and bought two new calves.
When he cleared 12th grade, again with a 'full A+', his father gifted him three goat kids. During the lockdown, the number of goats in his herd increased. But as soon as the classes resumed, he had to sell most of them. The profit from the sales is deposited in multiple saving schemes.
He still keeps six varieties of goats in his herd. He does not sell the milk of these goats. Milk is for the baby goats, he said. If I had bought a bike or a phone as the gift, my pocket would have emptied gradually and there would be no benefit, he added.
He is a first-year English Literature student of Maranalloor Christ Nagar college. B Abhijith (19) is the son of Binumon and Bindhu of ‘Pournami’ in Uchakkada here. He has a brother, Binoy. During his free time, he sells jackfruit to make pocket money.
