Kottayam: A Gyr calf was born through the process of in-vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) at Aamro Dairy Farm in Vaikom here. The male calf is named 'Aadikesh'.
Dr Jayadevan Namboothiri who supervised the experiment said that a Gyr calf is born through IVF-ET for the first time in Kerala.
The dairy farm is owned by Vaikom Arattukulangara native Murali Nair. The experiment was done in the lab here using the sperm brought from Brazil.
Gyr is an Indian cattle breed known for its high milk productivity. They have high immunity also. They originated from Saurashtra region in Gujarat.
