50 stray dogs adopted by families under dog adoption programme
Thrissur: Mallika, Blacky, Sooppi, Jacky and Kalyani are not wandering on the roads without getting ample food and shelter now. They are safely sleeping in their kennel. They were stray dogs before and were saved by the ABC (Animal Birth Control) centres of Kudumbashree. Dog lovers can adopt them free of cost. More than 50 such dogs have been adopted by interested people by now.
The ABC team captures and neuters stray dogs. After sterilization, the dogs are taken to the same place where they were found. This has been criticized by many people in society. It was in such a situation that the ABC centres of Kudumbashree came up with the 'Dogs Adoption Programme'.
Mallika, one of such dogs, was adopted by Anthikkad panchayat president Jyothi Raman and her husband Ramachandran. She has become their family member by now and they call her Malli. Two weeks ago, they also celebrated her birthday.
Kudumbasree District Mission Co-ordinator Jyothish Kumar said that a special 'pet stall' will be opened soon for dogs and puppies. Puppies are in high demand because they are easy to mingle with.
