22 cows, 16 calves, a bull; story of a dairy farm near Mayyazhi river
Kannur Kadavathur native businessman Ishaq and wife Sameera were thinking of a new venture to start on their 2.8 acre land at Pullookkara in Panoor, and they decided that a dairy farm could be the right choice. In a very short span of time, they proved that the decision was right.
Ishaq started his business stint in Coimbatore industrial zone. He gradually developed a chain of restaurants, hypermarkets and fish markets in Tiruppur and Abu Dhabi. He is managing all the business ventures without wasting even a moment. The couple also have two sons, Irfan and Sayiz.
Start of farm
When Ishaq started the dairy farm, he faced criticisms from some people. But after the business took off, everyone appreciated his effort. The land was situated on the banks of Mayyazhi river. The first major hurdle was the mud paths leading to the land which often gets submerged during rain.
He built a narrow road with the help of locals and resolved the problem. Then a large cattleshed was built along with digging of two wells and a small building nearby. Also he managed to appoint a few workers for the farm and purchased the cows. Thus the dairy farm 'MAC Milko Farm' was set up finally.
It has been only six months since the farm started. Now there are 22 cows, 16 calves and a giant bull. The musical atmosphere and proper air circulation are the highlights of the farm. An automated system is arranged to provide water for every cow without wasting even a drop. The cows belong to various breeds and milk production is at its best.
Sixteen cows are producing milk and average milk production is 230 litres a day. The cows are maintained in different stages of milk production through special breeding care. The quality of milk is evident from the huge crowd of local people arriving every morning to buy milk. Rs 55 is charged for one litre milk. Also buttermilk and ghee are produced.
Calves and cow dung also are for sale in the farm. Ishaq and Sameera reach the farm early in the morning to sell milk. Two workers are staying in the farm with their families. They have a house with all facilities close to the farm. Ishaq is of the opinion that dairy farm gives him peace of mind and it is more valuable than any profit.
