Vegetables delivered in vehicles at doorstep; New sales tricks in lockdown
Oachira (Kollam): The merchants are trying new marketing strategies to overcome the financial crisis during lockdown. As shops are closed, they are selling vegetables, fruits and groceries in mini lorries and goods auto rickshaws. Essentials are delivered at households in this method and buyers also find it helpful because they do not have to step out of house for shopping.
A team of two or three members including a driver is sent with a vehicle full of essentials to various places. The price of the items is decided including the transportation charges. The unsold goods and old stock are available for lower rate. Three kilogram breadfruit and five kilogram watermelon priced Rs 100 each are available aplenty. Onion, shallot, long beans, bitter gourd, drumstick, okra, mango, banana and other crops also are available.
Expensive vegetables and fruits are not included much. Though ripe mango is available, low quality mangoes are mostly seen. The mangoes ripened using artificial methods also is brought for sale in the vehicles. The buyers said that after eating such mangoes, itching is experienced on face and mouth. However, as the essentials are available at the doorstep, people respond positively to this method, said the merchants.
