Vegetable price soar this Onam; Kanthallur farmers stuck in price gloom
Marayur: Despite the vegetable prices soaring high, the farmers in Kanthalloor in Idukki are still stuck in price gloom.
These farmers who have overcome the adverse climate and cultivated the vegetables for the Onam market are now in huge crisis as they are not benefitted from the price hike. The drought period in Kerala have affected the cultivation.
Horticorp which buys vegetables from these farmers are selling it for double the price in the Kerala market. They had collected 13.425 tons of vegetables from these farmers through Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council Keralam (VFPCK). Also the intermediaries are exploiting the farmers.
Authorities are fixing the cost of the price of vegetables brushing off the assurance made by the agricultural minister, says the farmers.
They have brought the matter to the notice of the Horticorp officials.
