Septuagenarian sisters in Kozhikode cultivate land paddy, reap success
Mukkam (Kozhikode): Elderly sisters proved that age is only a number and toiled hard in the land paddy fields and reaped gold finally. Mambatta natives Karthyayani, 75, and her sister Soumini, 70, are the farmers who cultivated paddy in a field near their house.
The septuagenarian sisters cultivated Rakthasali and Jyothi varieties of paddy in the land. All the farm works like tilling, sowing and weeding were done by the sisters themselves. They were also supported by Karshaka Samithi secretary Vinod Manassery.
The elderly sisters said that the experience of working in the paddy fields from a young age helped them a lot in this venture. Mukkam municipal councillor V Kunjan inaugurated the harvesting of paddy in the presence of municipality staff and agriculture officer among others.
