Meppadi (Wayanad): Wild boar attack in farms is always a headache for farmers. Babitha Benny, hailing from Meppady, will be a call away for helping them now. She is the first woman in the state to obtain a license to shoot wild boars that destroy crops.
Babitha Benny is one of the four persons in South Wayanad Forest Division who received license for shooting wild boars. Hailing from Meppadi Puttad, Babitha obtained a gun license in 2005. Babitha and husband Kanjirathingal Benny hold a joint license.
The Kanjirathingal family possesses two foreign made guns. They are made in Italy and England and have been used in India since World War II. Babitha said that she developed an interest in guns from her husband. Also it was her husband who taught her to use a gun.
The procedures to empanel were initiated three months ago. Babitha is happy to obtain the license to shoot wild boars. Their area is facing intense menace of wild boars. She is confident that she would not fail to hit the target.
