Jackfruit chips from Kerala gets huge demand in Tamil Nadu; Rs 300 per kg
Thenmala: Jackfruits from Kerala has found an attractive market in the neighbouring state Tamil Nadu. When jackfruit season starts in Kerala, the Tamil Nadu markets are all set to buy jackfruits and the value added products from it.
Due to this high demand, multiple loads of jackfruits are taken to the border. Jackfruit is sold as a whole and as single fruit in Tamil Nadu. From the onset of monsoon in Kerala, the merchants turn to chips making. The border regions such as Kottavasal, Puliyara and Chenkotta are the major centres of jackfruit chips sales.
One kg jackfruit chips cost Rs 300. The price will be reduced when it is purchased in large quantities. About 6-7 women are working in every shop to cut the jackfruits. The sales target mainly the tourists who arrive to watch Kutralam and Palaruvi waterfalls. Both fruits and chips are in high demand in Tamil Nadu as well.
