Fishing boats return from sea with only 'Kilimeen'
Kozhikode: Many of the fishing boats that left Puthiyappa harbour returned in a sad state as 12 boats were damaged and most of the fisherfolk could not get a good catch.
The boats started venturing into the sea after a break of 70 days due to trawling ban and COVID crisis. But they could get only pink perch fish (kilimeen). Only one of the boat managed to get a good catch. The fishermen said that the expense of venturing into the sea in the boat cannot be managed with the catch they get.
About 150 boats had ventured into the sea from Puthiyappa harbour. The remaining boats are expected to come back by Friday. The situation can be evaluated only after they all come back, said V Umeshan, district president of Matsya Thozhilali Congress.
