Farmer, who lost banana farm in flood, gains profit through vegetable cultivation

Pavannoor native Abdul Azeez and wife Nabeesa proved that the losses occurred due to flood can be managed through intercropping.

Mayyil (Kannur): No flood can defeat Abdul Azeez's love for agriculture. He had started banana farming in a 3-acre barren land, but it was washed away in the flood havoc within 2 months. However, Abdul Azeez was not willing to give up. He started vegetable farming in the same place and is now gaining profit from it.

Pavannoor native Abdul Azeez and wife Nabeesa proved that the losses occurred due to flood can be managed through intercropping. They planted long beans, cucumber, okra and sweet potato as intercrops with the support of Agriculture officer K K Adarsh and agriculture assistants at Kuttiattoor Krishi Bhavan.

Harvest of long beans in over 6,000 flowerbeds was inaugurated by Kuttiattoor panchayat president N Padmanabhan. Panchayat member Arakkan Asokan, Pavannoor Padasekhara Samihi secretary K K Bhaskaran and agriculture assistant Udayan Edacherry also took part in the harvest.
