COVID crisis: Price of lantern chilli drops from Rs 180 to Rs 50 per kg
The price of yellow lantern chilli (locally called Mali mulaku) declined as the export was affected following the COVID outbreak. The farmers in high range who are already hit by the price fall of cash crops are further doomed with the immense drop in the price of lantern chilli.
Before the COVID outbreak, the price of lantern chilli was Rs 180 per kilogram and has now decreased to Rs 50. This chilli variety was highly popular in Mali. However, its export from Kerala was completely affected after the COVID crisis.
Majority of the farmers in high range including the tribal area have been cultivating lantern chilli for the past few years. As the price dropped immensely, they are struggling with financial crisis as not even the invested amount could be regained.
