Coffee Act to be amended in favour of farmers
New Delhi: The Central government has decided to amend and simplify the Coffee Act of 1942 in favour of the farmers. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal informed that the amendment will bring changes in the existing system as the farmers are troubled by the bank notices forwarded as per the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) act.
The Agriculture Research Council will conduct further studies on tea, coffee and spices. The decisions were taken by the minister after consulting coffee farmers, roasters and exporters.
It has been decided to introduce a scheme that will benefit the exporters at least for a year. The minister also consented to consider the demand of the Coffee Board chairman to restructure the loans of farmers as one time loans. The projects and extension activities of the Coffee Board will be strengthened.
A dashboard has decided to develop to know the live updates. The Minister has recommended to conduct workshops, exhibitions, location visits and seminars to stimulate the coffee production and trade.
