Ball-shaped cardamom becomes odd one out in 5-acre plantation
Kumily: A cardamom plant in a plantation near Kumily has been found bearing cardamom with a unique shape.
The plant grows in Odamettil native Sunil’s plantation. The cardamom is in the shape of a ball. Only one plant in the 5-acre plantation has got different shape.
Sunil’s neighbour Saji Parappallil said that the plant has been yielding normal cardamoms until previous year.
The cardamoms are seen stuck together on the bottom of the plant in the shape of a small ball. Also, the cardamoms are not found in bunches.
Normally, a cardamom contains upto 32 seeds in its pod whereas the ball-shaped cardamom contains 40 seeds.
This cardamom does not have the aroma or taste of a normal cardamom. Even the cells inside the cardamom are seen stuck together.
