Agriculture dept installs 96 ‘Onasamrudhi’ stalls
Kannur: In the wake of Onam-Bakrid festivals, the agriculture department has installed 96 Onasamrudhi vegetable stalls in Kannur district. The aim is to provide the public with pesticide free good vegetables at an economical price together with providing the farmers fair price for the vegetables.
These markets are installed throughout the district including panchayats and corporations. The market will be active from August 30 to September 8. In the 96 markets, 26 are by Horticorp, 8 by VFPCK and 62 by Krishi Bhavan.
200 tons of vegetables were collected for this from the farmers. The farmers were given 10 percent additional price and will be provided at the market at a 30 percent reduced price than the market price. The organic vegetables were collected at 20 percent additional cost and will feature at Onasamrudhi for 10 percent reduced price than the market price.
The winter vegetables that are not available in the district were collected from other districts through Horticorp.
Each stall will have indigenous vegetables, Kanthalloor vegetables and other state vegetables separate.
The speciality of these stalls is their green protocol. Alternate facilities are arranged for providing cloth covers at the stalls apart from the Horticorp.
