Economic slowdown: Centre to borrow additional Rs 50,000 cr

New Delhi: In order to tide over the economic slowdown caused by the implementation of GST and to to meet expenditure, the Centre is planning to undertake additional market borrowing of Rs 50,000 crore this financial year. The additional borrowings will be raised through dated government securities. Giving details of the government securities (G-Sec) to be issued during the upcoming fourth quarter, a Finance Ministry statement said the government had net market borrowings of Rs 3.81 lakh crore in the current fiscal till December 26. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha passed the Goods and Services Tax (Compensation to States) Amendment Bill, 2017, on Wednesday.
