Tourist vehicles to face entry ban at Thekkady Wildlife Sanctuary from March 1
Kumily: Vehicles carrying tourists will not be allowed to enter the reserve forest area of the Thekkady Wildlife Sanctuary beginning from March 1.
The visitors now have to park their vehicles at Anachal and travel to their destinations in Thekkady in the vehicles of forest department.
However, the vehicles of Kumily natives and tourists who have booked rooms at KTDC hotels will be exempt from the ban, Thekkady range Officer N P Sajeevan said.
The Forest Department received the sanction for shifting the parking to Anachal through an interim order passed by the Green Tribunal. The move is part of the Forest Department’s efforts to make Periyar Tiger Reserve garbage-free.
