Kothamangalam: Electricity minister M M Mani has informed the house that Idamalayar Hydel Power Project area will soon be opened up for hydel tourism. The minister also informed that the capital will soon be raised to make the project a reality.

The Idamalayar dam was closed to visitors following warning from the central and state intelligence agencies. Following this the dam was allowed visitors only on a restricted entry basis from the Forest or electricity departments.

The electricity minister said that the capital investment is being mobilised and the project will get running soon. The response was filed in a question posed to the minister regarding the status of the project by Antony John MLA. Facilities like boating will be arranged in the first stages, the minister said.

The MLA had earlier met the minister and discussed the viability of the project. It is hoped that with this the tourism potential of the area which receives large number of visitors who come to see the Bhoothathankettu dam will be further enhanced.
