Kozhikode: Purameri is all set to welcome the State Youth Volleyball Championship which will be held from December 22 to 28. A floodlit stadium is specially arranged in the ground of Rajas Higher Secondary School at Kadathanadu in Purameri, for conducting the matches. Purameri Jazz Club is the organizers of the event.

Men’s team from all the 14 districts of the state and women’s team from 10 districts will compete in the Championship. The winners of the tournament will be selected for participating in the National Youth Championship. The temporary floodlit stadium can accommodate up to 5000 viewers at a time.

Courts have been prepared in the nearby places for facilitating the practice of the teams. Natives of Purameri also actively come forward to help conduct the tournament. The accommodation for the volley teams is arranged in 17 households in the area and in Purameri HS School.

Jazz Sports Club Secretary M. C. Suresh said that they decided to organize the tournament in order to encourage sports. The club has successfully conducted 24 national and state level tournaments since the club was formed in 1982. The profit earned this year will be used for the development volleyball and for helping the suffering sports persons. They are promoting the tournament through social media also.
