Naduvannur: With the state bracing up for a severe drought, it seems the thieves have found new fortune in water. In a rare incident, unidentified persons stole water from a well situated inside a house compound in Kakkancherry near here using a motor pump.

The thieves are believed to have transported the water in a tanker. The incident came to light when the residents of the house switched on the motor to water the vegetable garden. There are marks of tyres on the ground.

The ‘Ettu Kettu’, a traditional homestead, is situated on 2 acres of land and the well is at the tail end of the compound. Five banana stalks were also stolen.
