Thiruvananthapuram: Double decker buses, that have been a part of the capital city’s history, has found its new service route, to the Technopark. The service will run in East Fort route on a daily basis.

The bus will reach Technopark at 8 45am. It will pass through Palayam, Petta and through the bypass will reach the water reservoir at the Technopark (first phase). It will then go to Kazhakoottam.

In the evening, the bus will start from Technopark around 6pm to East Fort. It will start from the ‘Nila’ building. In the afternoon, there is another service from the Technopark to Kazhakoottam. The techies are excited as the upper deck will provide a majestic view of the city while travelling.

At the same time, KSRTC DTO Saleem said that the service is highly profitable. Normally, double decker buses are in service in the East Fort, Shankumugham and Sasthamangalam routes. The daily collection was below Rs 5000 earlier. But, on the first day itself, the Technopark service provided an income of Rs 9300.

KSRTC officials said that the modification in the routes is part of the mission to make the organization profitable.

Earlier Vivekananda Study Circle, an association of techies, had submitted a request to the RTO Cell, citing the various needs of the techies highlighting the key challenges of Technopark fraternity. As a response to this, the new bus service is being provided on an experimental basis.
