Chirayinkeezhu: The tourism project planned to be implemented in Chirayinkeezhu a year ago still remain on paper. The new projects were supposed to replace many of the failed previous projects. Permission was granted for Rs 3 crore worth project but is yet to be realized.
The tourism facilitation centre in Pulimoottukadavu is nowhere near completion. Meanwhile, the Perumathura bridge was constructed in the isolated area, which inturn boosted Muthalapozhi as one of the prominent tourist places in the district. The place, which is located on the banks of Arabian Sea, Vamanapuram River and Kadinamkulam backwater, is famous for its landscape and historic background. Thus a new detailed report was prepared for Muthalapozhi tourism project.
Beach development, walkway construction, food court, beautification of Pulimuttu (sea wall), house boats, water sports, boat service, development of Kumaranasan cultural centre, coastal cruising circuit, floating restaurant, sea food plaza, recreational fishing, eco-tourism involving mangrove making and maintenance are included in the project.
Now there are suggestions to set up an International Water Sports Training Centre at the boat club in Chirayinkeezhu-Pulimoottukadavu. The project also proposes an art gallery to attract foreign artists, a work studio and an open air stage for promoting drama and dance performances. Cruising in ‘Uru’ (wooden ship) across Thankassery, Muthalapozhi, Vizhinjam and Kovalam is another item in the project, which targets those who are interested to travel by traditional means of transportation.
The coastal engineering wing has prepared a draft of the new tourism project, including the tourist centres nearby, and submitted the same to the government. The project is to be implemented in public - private partnership. The authorities already informed that they have discussed it with tourism minister Kadakampalli Surendran.
