Leopard scare at Poomarudikuzhi village
Kalanjoor: The Poomarudikuzhi village in Pathanamthitta district is under the leopard scare for the past 4 days. Pet dogs, cats and sambar deer (mlavu) have been killed by the leopard and very recently, the big cat strayed into the village killing a dog and cat owned by Vinod from Gitabhavan in Poomarudikuzhi.
The family members heard the wild cat attack their pet dog but due to fear they did not come out of their house, Vinod said. The next day, the leopard preyed on a sambar deer. The wild cat had also destroyed the solar fence that was put up near the Kiliyara forest range. Local people say that leopard scare is witnessed in the place for the past 2 weeks.
Ever since the pug marks of the leopard were first spotted by the native people, the forest Range officer K Suku, Padam deputy range officer Padmakumar, Forest officers N Pradeep, Georgekutty, Gopakumar, Jayaprakash, Ranjith have installed a cage to trap the wild cat. The camera installed near Kiliyara had captured the cat roaming around in the area.
