Thrissur: The explosive expert of the Thrissur Rural Police’s dog squad, Honey, is now a mother of seven. She is nursing the children, blacks and whites, at the training academy here.

It is the first delivery at the lone canine breeding center of the Kerala police.

Honey gave birth to the puppies a month back. The seven Labrador puppies, include three males and four females. Freda and Leika are pure black in color, meanwhile Delma, Betty, Marco, Hecter and Don are pure white.

Many notables, including Chief Minister’s principal secretary Nalini Netto, visited Honey and her puppies the other day.

Sweety, who sniffs out evidence from the crime spot, and Honey, who finds out the explosives, joined the Thrissur Rural Police’s dog squad.

The decision for reproduction was taken after obtaining the confirmation from ADGP and academy director K Padmakumar. The sperm of a similar species was taken from Mannuthy.

Honey came to the academy in 2013 at the age of two months. Juliee who also reached the academy with Honey is also being experimented for breeding, said SI P Ramesh.

The canine training center and the breeding center worth Rs 1 crore were set up at the academy in 2008. Earlier the dogs were brought here for around Rs 30000.
