Cancer patient requests for financial aid, receives death declaration
Panoor (Kannur): Vallangad native P. Ananthan was all alive when he received an official declaration that he is dead! The 64-year-old has been under treatment for spinal cancer for the past six years and had applied for financial assistance for cancer patients.
Unfortunately, the Labour Officer, who should be conducting an inquiry and submitting a report over the request, had found out that Ananthan died even before the date he filed the application. Interestingly, the order was received by Ananthan himself.
As per the order, Ananthan died on May 16, 2017. He was a daily wage labourer. But he was unable to go for work due to the disease. Also the expense for treatment resulted in a huge financial burden for him. Thus, he filed an application on November 9, 2017, for the financial assistance for labour force in unorganized sectors, as per the circular of Labour Commissioner (26-11-2013).
Assistant Labour Officer of Thalassery II Circle conducted an inquiry on the application and submitted the report to District Labour Officer. The report said that Ananthan died during the treatment for spinal cancer.
Ananthan received the order from the District Labour Officer, who allotted him Rs 2000 as per this report.
When he contacted the district labour office over phone, they said that it was a clerical mistake and the amount would be credited to his account. However, he lodged a complaint with the Collector and Labour Commissioner requesting to grant the financial assistance and to take action against the concerned officers.
